About

Lucy is a London born illustrator with an MA from Cambridge School of Art in Children’s Book Illustration. She was Head Dyer at the English National Opera for many years, printing and dyeing fabrics for costume and film and her love of flat print combined with pattern and texture is what influences her image making.

Inspired by characters from history as well as folk and fairy tales, Lucy creates simple, bold narrative illustrations using a vivid but minimal colour palette.  She uses Lino printmaking, etching and digital techniques and combines old and new methods to create sharply observed characters full of humour.

Lucy’s debut picture book “Polka Dot Poems”, written by Clippa award winner Zaro Weil, was published in 2021 by Troika Books.

In April 2023 two of her pictures were chosen for the Italian Excellence. Illustrations for Italo Calvino exhibition at Bologna Children’s Book Fair. The exhibition is currently on a world tour until March 2024.

Lucy works in a studio in an overgrown garden in Buckinghamshire, where she lives with her husband, son and two badly trained dogs.
